As part of my third year design thesis situated in Hull, we explored the city to develop our understanding of where we wanted to approach the dichotomy of the city.

Icons of the Industrial Age.

Industry goes on!
For my project, I focused on the dichotomy that lies between the remnants of Hull's Industrial pasts and its culturally thriving present.
Since my site was situated along the River Hull that dissects the city I particularly focused on the gateways from East to West Hull and ways in which one might revitalize the River.

The River Hull: Low tide and Mudflats.

Scale Lane Swing Bridge.
A key thing I noted was the lack of use of the riverfront which brought up questions regarding how one might bring the culture from one side and the industry from the other to form a new architectural icon for Hull.
